I just had a lovely weekend, and I hope you did too! Here are some pics from my Instagram – I'm laneway_esme if you want to follow me. Come join me!
We've had some more beautiful weather, warm and sunny but not too hot, and basically the kind of weather that I think of as the perfect summer kind, even though we are now one whole month into Autumn! It really has put me in a good mood. I am finding that this good mood means I also want to wear happy, girly clothes, having spent the last half of our summer proper wanting to wear anything but. As I've mentioned in my recent posts, I am really enjoying wearing full skirted dresses, and no longer find them cloying. In fact, I might have added a new vintage one to my collection..!
Saturday was warm but also very windy, so of course I chose to wear a shorter, full skirted dress and spent the next few hours desperately holding it down, a move I find is greatly helped by swearing often. We had a delicious breakfast at a favourite cafes, and then went to the Retro Star vintage sale. A quick change of dress (a vintage fitted dress, much better for sanity, not to mention decency, in windy weather) and met up with some friends at an art exhibition, and then saw some bands. On Sunday we had a lovely late breakfast with a couple friends, made a third, new one – see the kitty? her name is Penny and she is far more affectionate than that photo might suggest! – and drank lots of very good coffee, and finally headed home to enjoy some hot cross buns. And now I'd like to do it all again, please! The shorter gingham dress is from asos, as is the bag, and the shoes in that picture are by topshop – yep, all brand new! That doesn't happen everyday! Oh, I've just remembered the head scarf – it's a vintage '60s one, from an op shop... see, there's always something, it seems! In the bottom left pic I am wearing a 1950s dress (an absolute favourite at the moment) with a hand knitted shrug from a second hand shop and the shoes are again from topshop. The top left pic is possibly my favourite breakfast, poached eggs and avocado on toast. I make an amazing version at home, and I'll do a post on that very soon!
