Sick Designer has created three demonstrations of how Google Map can be used as a background for a website.
The first demo uses the embed code that comes from Google Maps that allows developers to insert an iframe to place a Google Map on a page. The second and third demonstrations, however, use the Google Maps API and are useful to developers who want to use Google Maps full-screen on a website.
The third demo in particular is pretty useful for anyone who wants a full-screen map. It shows how developers can use CSS and z-index to add a <div> on top of a Google Map. This could be used to create a welcome message, an 'about' message or a collapsible legend for a map.
