SOUND OFF: The Best Movie Remakes
Info Post
Sequels infuriate me. I hate the idea that studios are so conservative when it comes green-lighting projects that they stick to what they know. And more often than not, they'll spoil a great original with lackluster sequels.
That said, nothing—NOTHING—in the film industry pisses me off more than remakes. If a story has already been told, why the hell does it need to be told again? The worst is that filmmakers change these small details and try to claim its a whole new project. Case in point: This weekend's likely number 1 new release, Arthur.
But there's no use beating a dead horse. No cinephile likes remakes. That being said, some aren't half bad. Ocean's 11 is a blast. The Departed proved remakes can win Oscars. Hell, I even like Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky (a remake of Alejandro Amenabar's Abre Los Ojos).
This Sunday, I'll be publishing a list of my ten favorite film remakes. But in the meantime, I want to hear from you. What are some of your favorite remakes? And what films do you think deserve and could benefit from a remake?
